Two of the greatest vocal groups of all time – Little Anthony and the Imperials and The Righteous Brothers had hits in 1965. I can remember sitting in Penn’s Restaurant (the only place still open) late on Friday nights playing the Righteous Brothers on the jukebox. I think it was 1 song for 10 cents and 3 for a quarter. What a great lost pleasure – going up to the jukebox and flipping through all the music and then selecting the perfect song for the moment.
The British Invasion, Psychedelic Rock, and Bubblegum helped push slow dancing songs off the charts. Doo wop died and we are all the worse for it.
